Sweets For My Hippo

Did you guess it right? It's a Hippo! It's going to be my Sweets Pouch.

Photobucket

I get carsick a lot. So I keep a packet of Suan Mei with me wherever I go. But it's mostly finished by my boyfriend. :)

Here's how it looks like when you open it up.

I like it. :P

Here's what you need:
First, you need to cut out your templates. Make sure they are symmetrical. It will make the sewing a whole lot easier later on.
Clockwise: Body, pocket, teeth, ear, nose.
The pocket is measure from the top line of the body and the nose is drawn from the bottom line of the body.

You will also need the following:
elastic strings
1 tag
1 pair of plastic eyes (I use my clay to make the eyes. You can use those plastic ones or use embroidery to sew on the eyes)
glue (you don't need this if you're sewing on the eyes)
2 types of fabric

Here's how to prepare your fabric:
Using the templates, cut out:
2 pieces of Body with 2 different fabric.

1 body the size of 2 conjoined together:
Take the body and trace it one on top of another, making sure they are joined by the horizontal end. This will be the inner piece (the green one on the left).

CLockwise:
2 pieces of pocket
2 pieces of teeth
1 piece of nose
4 pieces of ears (2 of each fabric)

Lets begin sewing!

First, Sew the ears together using the blanket stitch. Leave the bottom open.

Pinch the 'triangle' that you traced from your template together and sew it into position.

Next up are the teeth. Fold them down and sew along the corners.

Now, sew on the nose and the 2 nostrils.

Then fold down the horizontal part of the pocket and sew neatly.

Next, sew the 2 singular body pieces together, from the horizontal edge. Don't forget the ears.

Now, position the inner pice (the size of 2 bodies) behind your hippo's face, together with the pockets - the pockets edges are to be tucked under the inner piece - pin them into position.
Then sew along the edges. Don't forget the tag, the elastic string and the teeth.

Now, glue, or sew, on the eyes and you're done!

All in a day's work!
